Peak Shipping Season 2026: Equipment Checklist for Small Warehouses and Packing Stations
November and December are the busiest months of the year for e-commerce sellers, small warehouses and packing stations. This checklist answers the most common equipment questions and links to the hardware we carry, so you can fix bottlenecks before the peak arrives.
What do I need to print shipping labels faster?
Most carrier labels (USPS, UPS, FedEx and marketplace labels) use the 4 x 6 inch format. A direct thermal label printer prints them without ink or toner, so the only consumable is the label roll. Check that the printer supports the label size your shipping software exports and how it connects (USB or Bluetooth).
Why does an accurate shipping scale matter?
Postage is calculated from weight, so a parcel that is under-declared can be returned or charged extra, and an over-declared one wastes money. A postal scale with 1 g resolution and enough capacity for your heaviest box keeps rates accurate.
Which barcode scanner fits picking and packing?
For moving around shelves, a wireless handheld 2D scanner is the most flexible. At a fixed packing table, a hands-free desktop scanner lets staff use both hands. A ring scanner keeps hands free while picking. Choose 2D models if you need to read QR codes as well as standard 1D barcodes.
How can I pack and seal parcels faster?
A handheld tape dispenser with automatic cutting speeds up carton sealing, and an impulse heat sealer closes poly mailers and plastic bags consistently.
What about the front counter?
If you also sell in person or at pop-up events, a portable receipt printer and a money counter help close the day faster.
